Challenge

To empower the management and staff, through increased knowledge and literacy on Sustainability issues, and draft a unique Sustainability Strategy.

The strategy was to be aligned with the business goals, mission and values.

The empowerment was achieved through a number of strategic pillars:

  • Sustainability Mindset & Code of Behaviour:

    Activate a change in mindset and behaviour to ensure adoption of sustainable practices.

  • Personal Responsibilities:

    Educate and empower employees to take meaningful action to deliver more sustainable work practices.

  • Align with Business Strategy:

    Update the business strategy to align with sustainability targets to achieve the wider goals of the business.

Solution

Veri Connect collaborated with Newpark Hotel management to deliver a comprehensive education and training programme (Climate Action 101) to a team of employees from across the business.

The programme brought the team on a sustainability journey to explore how Climate Change would impact their business and understand what actions they could take to build resilience throughout the organsation.

Together we formulated a strategy with 5 key pillars:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Waste & Water Management
  • Community Engagement
  • Carbon Footprint Reduction
  • Ethical Sourcing

Result

The Newpark Hotel formulated their unique Sustainability Strategy to inform all future decisions. A number of key objectives were achieved as part of this project, namely:

  • Formation of a “Green Team” to oversee all sustainability efforts within the hotel.
  • Certification with Green Hospitality.
  • Providing Sustainable Transport solutions for guests and employees.
  • Introduction of waste separation systems throughout all operations.
